The Antigua region is located in a valley surrounded by three impressive volcanoes Agua, Fuego and Acatemango in central Guatemala. The rich volcanic soil and rainforest conditions produce a well-balanced Arabica coffee with a smooth finish.
The region produces some of the finest coffees in the country. The coffee is grown in the shade at 5,000 to 5,700 feet above sea level and collectively wet milled and sun dried in the region. n by hand.
Guatemala “Strictly Hard Bean” coffee is grown at elevations above 4,500 feet above sea level. Beans grown at these high altitudes mature more slowly and grow to be more dense improving the attributes of body and acidity in the cup.All coffee graded “SHB” must be grown above 4,500 feet, coffee grown below these elevations is graded as“hard bean”.
The coffee trees grow in rich volcanic soil on the hillsides under shade trees.The low humidity and dense shade trees, combined with the regions shallow water table produces a distinct dry microclimate within the coffee fields.
