The Monte Alegre Farm was already a traditional and well-known coffee producer, in South Minas Gerais region, when the Vieira Family acquired the property in 1917. Other crops were also grown on the farm, such as sugar cane, for the production of brown sugar and “rapadura”. The main activities of the family originated Monte Alegre crystal sugar and alcohol Mill, and Monte Alegre Company, founded in 1990 to run the family farms and explore the coffee production, cattle raising, sugar cane and corn crop, among other activities.

Over time, the focus of Monte Alegre Company was driven to specialty coffees, from what came Monte Alegre Coffees identity. By the help of management certifications, it produces estate coffees with differentiated characteristics and flavors, with social responsibility and environmental protection in the main producing region of Brazil.

The coffee harvest can be done manually or mechanized. In both we have the possibility to choose or not a selective picking. All care must be taken in order to select the best cherries.

All coffee harvested is transported at the same day to the patios facilities to run few stages of cherries preparation and then start the drying in patios, african beds and/ or in dryers operated by high tech automatic system that allows to stablish the desired drying curve. The dried cherries and the parchment lots are stored in wood silos for a resting, for homogenization and for cupping improvement.

The final preparation of the coffee is done at Monte Alegre Coffees facilities: cleaning and hulling, screening sizing, density separation and color sorting. After bagging, the coffee is ready to be delivered in jute bags (with option of adding hermetic bag type GrainPro), paper bags or vacuum packs.
